JACKSONVILLE (FBC)—Southern Baptist Disaster Relief is coordinating the response after a deadly EF 5 tornado devastated Joplin, Mo., Sunday, May 22, according to Fritz Wilson, director of the Florida Baptist Convention Disaster Relief and Recovery Department.
“We have offered assistance but most likely disaster relief units from Oklahoma and Texas Baptist conventions will be activated because they are the closest,” said Wilson on May 24.
However, Wilson noted on May 25, those original plans may change as the damage is assessed after a string of tornados crossed Oklahoma and other locations in the Midwest on Tuesday.
John Sullivan, executive director-treasurer of the Florida Baptist Convention, has sent $5,000 in funds to the Missouri Baptist Convention to assist the state convention’s disaster relief efforts.
Florida Baptist churches and individuals who want to give to help the Missouri Convention’s disaster relief efforts can send checks to the Florida Baptist disaster relief designated for Missouri tornado relief. The Florida Convention will then send it on to Missouri. Make check payable to the Florida Baptist Convention and send to Disaster Relief Department, 1230 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville, FL, 32207.
